Israeli occupation authorities sentenced on Sunday Palestinian astrophysicist Imad Barghouthi to seven months in prison, the Palestinian Prisoner Club (PPC) said.
The PPC said in a statement that the Israeli military court in Ofer had announced its sentence against the 54-year-old resident of Beit Rima to seven months in prison, starting from the date of his detention in late April.
In the statement, the PPC said that the Israeli military court also issued a fine of 2,000 shekels ($527) against the Palestinian astrophysicist.
A professor of theoretical space plasma physics at Al-Quds University in the occupied East Jerusalem, Barghouthi was arrested in 2014. He spent some time inside the Israeli jails and then was released.
In in April, he was kidnapped from his home and was placed under administrative detention. The PPC appealed to an Israeli court against his detention then.
That Israeli court ordered his release at the end of May due to a lack of evidence, but he was interrogated immediately and indicted on social media incitement charges.
