Saudi Arabia vows to disarm anti-Israeli groups in Gaza Strip
Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel al-Jubeir, said anti-Israeli armed groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, must be disarmed if Israel accepts to engage in negotiations in order to withdraw from territories it has occupied in the 1967 war. Al-Jubeir confirmed that the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative resumes to be the best solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The initiative calls for normalizing relations between the Arab region and Israel, in exchange for a full withdrawal by Israel from the occupied territories (including East Jerusalem) and a “just settlement” of the Palestinian refugee problem based on UN Resolution 194.
The Saudi Minister pointed out that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict can never be solved through the armed struggle adopted by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, accusing them of victimizing civilians.
