250 Palestinians arrested for “Facebook incitement”
Since the outbreak of Jerusalem Intifada
RAMALLAH, (PIC)– The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) arrested since the outbreak of Jerusalem Intifada in Oct. 2015 nearly 250 Palestinians for “Facebook incitement,” a rights group revealed. Head of the Palestinian Center for Prisoners Studies Riyad al-Ashqar affirmed that Israeli forces carried out during the Jerusalem Intifada systematic arrest campaigns against Palestinians under flimsy pretexts with the aim of putting an end to the ongoing uprising. Incitement at social media is a new Israeli pretext to justify the random arrests against Palestinian youths, al-Ashqar said. Women and children were among the 250 detainees, he pointed out, saying that some of them were held in administrative detention. Israeli authorities considered usual words such as martyr, resistance, uprising, and freedom on social media as incitement, he said.
